Pediatric Dentistry

The primary and permanent teeth of our cute heroes aged 0-12 play an important role in the story of their growth and development. Unfortunately, when these teeth decay or are lost prematurely, there is the possibility of a shortage of space for future permanent teeth.

Fortunately, there are Pediatric Dentists (Pedodontists) at OD Clinic in Alanya who are interested in the adventure of protecting and treating the teeth of our little ones and have almost magical powers in this journey. Your children can enjoy watching 3D cartoons while being treated by our Pedodontics (pediatric dentistry) specialist in our policlinic. Support your children to step into a future full of healthy and happy smiles with our staff who are skilled in communicating with children in a reassuring and easy-to-understand way.

What do pediatric dentists do?

  • The priority of the pediatric dentist is to ensure that children do not develop fear of dentists and to turn dental treatment into a pleasant game for children.

  • Informs both the child and the family about oral and dental care in children and organizes personalized preventive programs (hygienic tooth cleaning, fluoride applications, fissure sealants) if necessary.

  • Performs restorative and endodontic treatments (dental fillings, root canal treatments) of deciduous and newly erupted permanent teeth.

  • They apply treatments to stop bad habits such as finger sucking, nail biting, pencil biting.

  • They perform extractions of milk teeth and, if necessary, placeholder and child prosthesis.

  • They follow up the teeth exposed to trauma and carry out treatments if necessary.

  • They treat children with extreme dentist phobia or who require special attention under operating room conditions, under sedation or general anesthesia.

Children’s first dental visit

It is recommended to make the first dental appointment within one year after the first tooth eruption. Thereafter, appointments should be followed up regularly.

Activities such as watching videos, reading books or counting teeth with toys at home can be done to prepare the child for the dental visit.

When choosing an appointment time, it may help to choose times when the child is more energetic and happy.

Parents should not project their own worries onto their children and share their negative experiences. Instead, they should encourage children and maintain a positive attitude. In particular, it is important to understand that a tooth that needs treatment may not be completely resolved at the first appointment and patience is needed.

Parents should not make threats to their children, such as “don’t misbehave and I will take you to the dentist” or “you will be given an injection”, as these behaviors can lead to Dentist Phobia in children.
